Abstracts were due July 31, 2011, and corresponding authors/presenters were notified by e-mail on December 8. The Preliminary Program will be posted at this Web site by the end of December. Additional abstracts will be considered for openings that may develop in the poster sessions. Abstracts with a pronounced commercial slant will not be accepted.

Format/Content.  Abstracts must be in English, cannot exceed one standard-size page, and are to be submitted as Microsoft Word files. See the example abstract (PDF) for format and content specifications; it can be printed to illustrate the desired final appearance. The Word version (link to ExampleAbstract.docx) can be used as a template—type each section of your abstract over the text in the corresponding section of the example abstract. Note that the example abstract specifies subheadings (Background/Objectives, Approach/Activities, and Results/Lessons Learned) to be used in an abstract to convey the information reviewers will need to comprehend the scope of the work, evaluate the data and analysis likely to be available at the time of the presentation, determine its relevance and compare it with other proposed presentations, and, if it is accepted, assign it to an appropriate platform or poster session. Abstracts that do not adhere to the format and content specifications may be declined during the initial review.

File Name. Save your abstract in Microsoft Word® 2007 (or earlier version). The file name is to be constructed as follows:
Chlor_[Presenter’s Last Name]Abs.doc
For example an abstract submitted for a presentation to be given by someone who last name is Smith would have the file name and extension Chlor_SmithAbs.doc
If additional abstracts are submitted for the same presenter, use file names “Chlor_SmithAbs2.doc”, “Chlor_SmithAbs3.doc”, etc.

Submittal and Confirmation of Receipt. Use the online submittal form to submit the abstract; the form will require the following information:

  • Title of abstract. Should not exceed 15 significant words.
  • Corresponding/presenting author information. Name of the person expected to make the presentation at the Conference (i.e., the name given in bold italics on the abstract). This is the person to whom all correspondence will be addressed. Include all contact information—employer, street address, city, state/ province and zip/postal code (as applicable), country, telephone, fax, and e-mail address.
  • Coauthor address list. Full names of coauthors and contact information for each—employer, street address, city, state/province and zip/postal code as applicable, country, telephone, fax, and e-mail address. This information is required for all coauthors.

Receipt of the abstract will be acknowledged by e-mail within one week. Your abstract should be sent only once—please do not send a backup copy by mail or fax and do not resubmit the abstract electronically unless you have not received acknowledgment of receipt after more than one week.

Note: No financial assistance is available to support registration or other costs of attending the Conference. Because registration fees are the major source of funding for the Conference and a significant percentage of registrants will make presentations and/or chair sessions, all presenting authors and session chairs are expected to register and pay the applicable technical-program registration fees.

Proceedings. Technical papers (approximately 8 pages long) will be invited for all platform or poster presentations, and will be due about six weeks before the Conference. Preparation and submittal information will be available in mid-February 2012. Each platform or poster presentation given at the Conference will be represented on the proceedings CD by a text file, either a paper or an abstract. Technical papers are preferred because they provide a much more complete record of the material presented. However, if no paper is submitted for a given presentation, the abstract will be used in its place. In addition, the PowerPoint files for all platform presentations will be converted to PDF after the Conference and included in the proceedings.
