Lab Management Main

Managing research - the innovative, highly specialized people who perform it; the capital-intensive, complex instrumentation and facilities it requires; and the ever-changing, project based environment that drives it - is a disciplined art.

In more than 80 years of research management, Battelle has learned key lessons. Stay focused on the outcomes in every management decision. Establish clearly articulated roles, responsibilities, authorities, and accountabilities at all levels in the organization, and for all jobs. Set high standards of exemplary professional and personal behavior.

We even invented a phrase for it, “simultaneous excellence.” That means we expect our laboratory management teams to deliver outstanding research results that meet our customers’ critical needs; to operate laboratories with distinction - effectively, efficiently, and in full compliance with regulatory and customer expectations; and to set an example of outstanding corporate citizenship and community service.

Battelle manages or co-manages seven national laboratories for the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and a nuclear energy lab in the United Kingdom.
