Battelle is not just a world-class science and technology organization. It's a world-class way of life, thanks to the charitable vision of our founder, Gordon Battelle.
Gordon’s legacy lives on as we strive to realize his vision of supporting “charitable institutions and enterprises or persons in need, and in such manner and amounts as will do the greatest good for humanity.”
We value our reputation as a caring employer, compassionate neighbor, and conscientious community leader. We work hard to protect, preserve, and nurture our people, facilities, communities and environment through a variety of initiatives.
Education
To help children reach their potential and thrive in their future careers, Battelle created the Ohio STEM Learning Network (OSLN). The OSLN is a network of schools and programs designed to enhance, accelerate, and connect STEM (science, technology, education, and mathematics) education efforts across the state. STEM strives to build critical thinking abilities while cultivating curiosity, confident intellectual risk taking, and fearless exploration of ideas. Battelle’s STEM efforts are growing and have spread from Ohio to across the country.
Volunteering
Since 1992, Team Battelle has supported the volunteer efforts of our staff members as they serve alongside friends and family in their local communities in these key areas:
- Arts & Culture
- Civic & Community
- Education
- Health & Human Services
Team Battelle projects are volunteer-driven programs and activities that meet community needs, capitalize on staff interests, and are consistent with our corporate citizenship priorities. Many staff members throughout the country give of their time and are involved in volunteer activities through Team Battelle.
Giving
Battelle’s staff also generously give their financial resources to a variety of worthy causes. Battelle’s annual workplace giving campaign, which has seen a great increase in participation in recent years, encourages staff members to give to the charities of their choice.
And staff aren’t the only ones giving. As part of Gordon’s will, Battelle donates at least 20 percent of our annual revenue to worthwhile causes, particularly to advance education.
Collaborations
Battelle is providing leadership support to the Smithsonian American Art Museum's exhibition "The Great American Hall of Wonders" in Washington, D.C. The exhibition celebrates the history of the first 100 years of the Patent Office and examines the uniquely American belief that we share a special genius for invention. It will run from July 15, 2011 to January 8, 2012. “The Great American Hall of Wonders” examines this spirit of innovation and the impact of discovery on American life and development through the confluence of art, science, and technology. This exhibition closely reflects Battelle’s core business goals and is consistent with the company’s desire to raise its business and public policy profile and visibility in our Nation’s Capital. The Smithsonian American Art Museum and its partner in the exhibition, the United States Patent and Trademark Office, will present a series of programs about today’s inventors and inventions as a contemporary complement to the exhibition.
