Capabilities: Supports Battelle’s Centers for Public Health Research and Evaluation by providing government agencies, healthcare organizations, and the pharmaceutical industry with high-quality research and survey operations services, primarily within the public health industry. Provides full-service study Simulating outer space at Battelle West Jefferson design and data collection, including large field studies; focus groups and in-depth interviews; and mail, telephone and Web surveys.

 

Points of Pride: Staff manage field survey operations across the country, studying diverse populations to benefit society in the area of public health. An example is the Emergency MedKit Evaluation Study, a major CDC-sponsored study to see how safely and effectively medicines can be stored and reserved for emergency use. With the cooperation of many St. Louis-area private employers, government agencies, and community clinics, Battelle distributed emergency MedKits to more than 4,200 households. Staff are also conducting a series of Los Angeles- based eye studies, offering free, comprehensive eye exams to thousands of L.A.-area residents to determine the incidence and prevalence of ocular diseases. In addition, staff are conducting a study that targets respondents who were living in New Orleans when Hurricanes Katrina and Rita struck. Staff conducted telephone interviews on survivors’ education, housing situations, relationships and hurricane aftermath experiences.

 

Good Deeds: Staff donate time and money to the Jack Orchard ALS Foundation; YMCA of Greater St. Louis; Grace Hill Neighborhood Health Centers, Inc.; Institute for Family Medicine; Leukemia and Lymphoma Society; River Styx magazine for the arts; local public schools; the local Humane Society; and post-disaster rebuilding efforts in New Orleans.
